Climbing In Crete

Crete Adventures: Climbing In Crete, Thereso
Crete offers an amazing range of climbing opportunities, everything from the absolute beginner to more experienced climbers. The opportunities here in Crete has been greatly under-publicised and explored by the outdoor activities world, so its all out there waiting for you to experience. The climbing is mostly on limestone but there are also some volcanic outcrops and grit stone. We can offer fun “top rope” sessions close to the beach so you don’t have to go far for a dip after your activity session.

Crete Adventures: Climbing For Schools And Organised Groups
Climbing and abseiling is another popular activity for school and youth groups. The systems and procedure we employ is just the same as you have been used to in the UK on school residentials, except when you are climbing in here the weather is much more favourable! We usually put a climbing session next to a snorkelling or coasteering session on school residentials just to provide that bit of variation. Both locations are also very close so you don’t waste time on traveling all over the island. For the experienced climber there are numerous routes close to Chania in the wonderful gorge of Thereso.
For younger children in the group we have several easier climbs that we “Top rope” to give the younger ones more confidence as well as some technical climbs that we can “Top rope” for more able climbers. For those who are accomplished climbers we can head to the fantastic Thereso Gorge. Thereso is the Llanberis Pass of Crete!! So many impressive single pitch climbs for the more experienced school group.

No matter if you’re young or old, nothing boosts confidence and self-esteem quite like successfully climbing! Climbing is a full body activity that incorporates every major muscle group and appendage. It also requires careful coordination, you will need to look at the route and then determine how to get their hands and feet onto the best holds
Because climbing is a full body activity, it’s a great way to enhance overall physical fitness. You will exercise their core, legs, arms, and even the tiny muscles in their hands. Endurance is also a big part of climbing, especially as you progress to longer and more technically difficult routes.
Climbing is as much of a mental challenge as it is a physical adventure. When you climb your first rock wall, they may be overwhelmed by all of the ways they can make it to the top. However, as you climb more you will learn how to mentally map out the most efficient ways to navigate the holds. These problem solving and planning skills can easily transfer to everyday life.
A rock face is an outdoor gym. It might be a little scary and intimidating at first, but with enough practice and coaching from our instructors you will be scaling walls with a smile in no time.
